Fight to save Queen Mary's goes on - (06/11/08)

Bob Neill, Member of Parliament for Bromley & Chislehurst, has pledged to continue to fight to save key services at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup after the decision taken by the 'Picture of Health' board to the Secretary of State for Health.

The Bromley M.P. contacted thousands of residents likely to be most affected by the closure to outline his opposition and asking for their views so he could feed them into the consultation. The response was overwhelming and Bob was able to make hundreds of separate representations to the consultation process.

Bob has since raised the issue in the House of Commons during a debate on healthcare in the area and reminded Minister’s about the outcome of his own consultation.

Bob said “Those in need of emergency care must have a department that is nearby to ensure they receive life saving treatment as quickly as possible.

“There is real anger within the community about these proposed cuts, which are hugely unpopular and defy logic.  I will continue to make these views known to the Government.''
